How I Jailed Our Junk Mail

After I received 3 credit offers from the same company in a two day period, yes two of the exact same offer actually arrived on the very same day, I had enough.

In red ink, I crossed out the application portion of the offers and wrote “Remove This Address from Your Mailing List” across the top. I then stuffed every piece of paper, glossy inserts, the offer itself, even the envelope it came in, into their respective “Postage Paid Envelopes” and mailed them right back.

I continued the process every day for about 2-3 weeks, at which time I noticed a significant decrease in the junk mail arriving in our mailbox. After 6 weeks, days would go by without us receiving a single piece of trash masquerading as mail.

It was so simple I couldn’t believe it!

The draw back to this system is, as soon as you move or order something through the mail or donate to a cherished cause, you’re right back on the lists and the process starts all over again.

Note that if you donate to a cause, write on the original donation form or note on an online form that you do not wish to receive further solicitations but will donate again when you are financially able to do so. This saves the org the money and resources required for direct mailing and saves you the hassle and guilt of the solicitations arriving in your mailbox.
