New Moon Risings

As you all know, every penny that comes in to Helikas goes right back out as a charitable donation.  It’s time to say Thank You to all our subscribers who allowed us to make the following donations this quarter:

• Sponsorship of Witchvox was renewed with a little extra for Wren and Fritz’s hard work.
• Second donation went to Cat Welfare Association.  They are local and are simply overrun with kittens this time of year. It’s hard to keep those growing guys in food, so hopefully we’ve all helped out in that area.

Cat Welfare is also running an adoption day in conjunction with our local metaphysical store Fly By Night on September 27.  In case you are in the Columbus area, stop by and pet a familiar and maybe take one home.  The store is located at 4145 North High Street Columbus, OH 43214.

We didn’t make a donation to a larger charity this quarter, it seemed right to help closer to home.

It’s time to tell you where your hard earned money went…

A donation of $50 to Environmental Defense Action Fund, the lobbying arm of Environmental Defense, a leading environmental organization dedicated to educating the public about sound environmental policy and promoting lasting solutions to protect the environmental rights of all people.

Additionally, 3 14lb bags of Pet Promise cat food were donated to our local no kill feline shelter.  Surprisingly, the cost of the cat food turned out to be double the donation given to EDF!  This is a sort of double donation, of course it helps out the shelter but it is also supporting a pet food company that is conscious of what goes into their food.

As they state their policy, “Our ranchers don’t feed their animals added antibiotics or growth hormones, and unlike most other “natural” pet foods, we refuse to use rendered fats and proteins in Pet Promise. What do we use? Our quality ingredients include meat from pasture-fed animals, free-range poultry, and ocean-caught fish.”

As always, a huge thank you to all of our clients who make these donations possible.  Every little bit, even a small Basic package from Helikas, helps make these donations possible.

Again, we must give an enormous thank you to all Helikas subscribers who allowed us to close out 2007’s 4th quarter with a bang. In keeping with what we have learned about making donations effective by donating more to fewer rather than little to many, donations were made to the following charities:

The Ocean Conservancy promotes healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems and opposes practices that threaten ocean life and human life. Speaking on behalf of endangered sea turtles, right whales, manatees and the all the other magnificent life that call the ocean their home.

Our local no-kill animal shelter. Small and less than a year old, we look forward to helping these deserving folks make a difference in our local community. Food, litter, leashes and toys were donated as well as money.
