WebWeaver says “No Thank You” to Donations

Monday, August 6th, 2007

First and foremost, thank you to those who have emailed offering to make donations to WebWeaver Pagan Search. It is nice to know that you enjoy and appreciate our service and work enough to even consider donating, but no thank you and here’s why…

When we created WebWeaver, we assumed the financial responsibility for operating the site, which really isn’t very costly despite the solicitations of some webcrafters.

All of us are volunteers and enjoy working on the site as fits into our own schedules. We don’t work long, grueling hours and we don’t get paid but than again, we don’t expect to. Thank yous are nice though :)

By choosing not to solicit or accept donations or sponsorships, it is clear that results are returned based solely on relevancy.

Again, thank you so much for your kind words and offers but instead of sending money, we would really appreciate if you Grab a banner & spread the word about WebWeaver!

WebWeaver - Why Human Editing?

Friday, June 8th, 2007

WebWeaver was created to fill the gap left when so many witchcraft, pagan and occult oriented search engines closed shop. In order to fill this space in good conscience, it became paramount to us that WebWeaver contain valid, useful links that would appeal to the wide range of interests of the community. To create this resource we chose to go about it the hard, manual way, the human edited way, for quite a few reasons:

  • Spam Links

Many search engines auto-approve submissions which allows spam links to infiltrate what promised to be a useful search engine. By manually validating submissions to WebWeaver, we avoid listing spam as well as yet-to-be-completed sites.

  • The Approval Process

Prior to its inclusion, each site submission is reviewed by human eyes though we do not pass judgment on the actual content of a site. Whether we agree personally with the views of a site is irrelevant as long as the site might be of interest to some in the community. What sites will not be approved?

  • More Benefits of Human Eyes

Human editing also allows WebWeaver to avoid the influence of keyword spamming, the practice of placing keywords in a title or repeating them numerous times on a page simply to achieve a higher search engine ranking.

We strive to properly categorize submissions to make browsing the directory more user-friendly. Not all sites fit neatly into one category and so we allow a site to be placed in up to three different categories.

  • Cleaning the Web

Every so often, Arachne will go on a cleaning spree to clean out dead links. Nothing is worse than clicking a promising link to get a 404 Error or a parked domain. Dead links waste time and are something that we strive to eliminate in our effort to serve the community.

During a cleaning spree, each listing is re-reviewed to make sure that the link is valid and the site still properly categorized since some sites will change their focus often.

  • You Can Help!

You can help by reporting dead links, rating sites and suggesting sites that you love. If you have a listing with WebWeaver, please, please, please keep it up to date. Through your account, you can modify all criteria for your listing as well as delete it.

You can also spread the word about WebWeaver by just talking about us on message boards or by adding one of our banners to your site.

  • So, Why Human Editing?

Because of the reasons outlined above as well as some left unmentioned, we think that it produces the best resource for the community. And yes, we are real, live, honest to goodness, human beings.

WebWeaver - Cleaning Complete

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Arachne has completed the cleaning of her web. Over 60 defunct sites were deleted and those under construction but partially functioning were noted as such.

Arachne does prefer a clean and tidy web to a cluttered mess of dead links and cleaning will commence periodically through the year.

If you list your site with WebWeaver, please do keep up to date on your listing. Delete it if your site will be closing or let us know if it will be down for an extended period, in which case it will be moved to “Hold” status until we are informed to return it to its regular status.

WebWeaver - Arachne is Cleaning

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Arachne takes pride in a clean and tidy web and once again it is time to clean out the defunct and discontinued sites. The cleaning has already begun and will continue until each one of the over 1700 sites listed has been re-reviewed and confirmed as valid.

Sites that will be removed include:

  • Redirected links
  • Invalid urls
  • 404 errors
  • 403 errors
  • Under Construction sites (may be resubmitted when site has returned)

If your site is listed at WebWeaver, please be sure that your account information is up to date.

It is for both our visitors and the webmasters who list with WebWeaver that Arachne maintains the integrity of the links in her web.
